Sixth Form Pathways Programme Underway

Thefirst stage of the Sixth Form Pathways Programmeculminated in a presentation finale at the end of last term, with Team 1945beating14other entries and truly convincing us that1945was indeed the most influential year of the 20th Century. Lower Sixth students had been working on the project across three weeks, honing their planning, research and teamwork skills and adding to the other career and social skills developed as part of the programme, including networking, public speaking and building an effective online profile.

This termnowsees pupilsdivide into their chosen “pathway”, with nearly 30 pupils electing to do an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ),the inaugural yearfor the school to offerthis programme. In addition, 24 students have chosen to participate in our Degree Apprenticeship pathway, evidence of the fast-growing interest this career routeis now generating. The remaining students have chosen a pathway that allows then to dedicate time to building skills specific to their area of interest post Sixth Form, including Oxbridge, Medicine and visual and performing arts applications.

Anew programme of support for budding US university applicantshas also been launched. Last term we deliveredanumber ofinformation sessions on themessuch as standardised testing (SATs/ACTs) and sports scholarships, as well as access to US university fairs. This term we will hold several workshops including how to choose the right university, the admissions process and the new digital SAT. Applications to US universities isan area we are seeing more and more interest and we’re delighted that so many pupilsare taking advantage of these enrichment opportunities.
