Nail biting Finish at Hans Woyda Maths Competition
This Wednesday, 51³Ô¹Ï went up against Whitgift School in the Southern section plate final of the Hans Woyda maths competition. The competition on the way had been fierce, but 51³Ô¹Ï had beaten every opponent in the knockout section handily so went into the final full of confidence.
The match started off even with 51³Ô¹Ï gaining a two-point lead in the second round before Whitgift evened the score again and pulled ahead themselves. Both teams were scoring very highly in each round, 51³Ô¹Ï getting 29/30 in the team round and Whitgift 30/30. Going into the final round Whitgift were ahead a scant 3 points, and the head-to-head race began. It was at this moment that 51³Ô¹Ï pulled out all the stops. With repeated photo finishes 51³Ô¹Ï’s accuracy was the telling factor and they managed to turn that 3 points lead around to end up with 48 to Whitgift’s 45.
A truly nail-biting end to a hard-fought match. Huge congratulations to our team Anastasiia M, Jack Z, Jiayi L and Vivian W but also all the others who took part in our past matches. We’ve had a fantastic team this year with some stellar performances all round. Now the only question is “can we hang on to our title next year?”
